Yanick, I’m completely blown away by the power of the Leadnow community. In just 24 hours, supporters like you raised $7,304.00 to purchase transit ads in swing ridings, calling out the Conservatives for blocking the creation of good, sustainable jobs for Canadians. With the Conservatives busy casting themselves as a “workers’ party” and reaping the benefits in the polls, we need to show voters where their loyalties lie: not with the thousands of Canadian workers hungry for good work – but with the ultra-wealthy corporations who profit off our long hours and low wages. https://act.leadnow.ca/chip-in-sustainable-jobs/ With determination, Kate and Cheryl for Leadnow

Dear Yanick, It’s safe to say that everyone – of all political stripes – agrees that decent, well-paying jobs are a social good. Everyone, it seems – except for the Conservative party of Canada. Right now, the federal Conservatives are filibustering two bills that would create countless jobs for Canadians. [1,2] The reason? These jobs would kickstart Canada’s sustainable energy sector – and threaten the profits of the Conservatives’ Big Oil buddies. With an election right around the corner, the Conservatives are casting themselves as a “workers’ party” – so we need to show swing voters that the Conservatives are the ones blocking the creation of good Canadian jobs. Here’s the plan, Yanick: if we can raise $9,052 by the end of the week, we’ll purchase bus ads in ridings where Conservatives won by a slim margin in the last election – calling them out for destroying good Canadian jobs. Thousands of commuters would see our message every day – and it could scare the Conservatives into scaling back their attack on workers. So far, the Conservatives’ working class act has paid off in the polls. But in moments like this, it’s clear where their true loyalties lie – not with the thousands of Canadian workers beaten down by inflation and desperate for good work – but with the ultra-wealthy corporations who profit off our long hours and low wages. The two bills that the Conservatives are filibustering would foster offshore energy production in Atlantic Canada and support the emergence of sustainable jobs – both critical interventions that could put thousands of Canadians to work while tackling the climate crisis. [3] Yanick, we can’t let the Conservatives hold us back from the good, well-paying, green jobs we need. Will you chip in $20 now to put our transit ads where thousands of swing voters will see them? https://act.leadnow.ca/chip-in-sustainable-jobs/ With determination, Kate and Ellen for Leadnow Sources [1] https://www.nationalobserver.com/2023/11/03/news/labour-leaders-ndp-liberals-call-out-cpc-holding-sustainable-jobs-legislation [2] https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/low-carbon-economy-transition-climate-change-1.7016490?cmp=newsletter_CBC%20News%20Politics%20Headlines_1636_1290925 [3] see [2] |
