“We eat three or four times a week,” reported Hodan, a mother in Somalia. She had brought her infant son to a CARE-operated health clinic.
When they arrived, young Abidrahman was only 5.2 kg (about 11.5 lbs). At eight months old, he was underweight and severely malnourished. After receiving specialized food at the health clinic, Abdirahman was able to gain 200 grams (close to half a pound) in just three short days.
Your support today can help ensure CARE is on the ground and equipped to help those in need. When a crisis hits, women and children are most vulnerable. The ongoing hunger crisis in Somalia sends more pregnant women and mothers to CARE’s health clinics in need of aid. Children experiencing hunger are more likely to experience diseases such as tuberculosis and malaria. Malnutrition can reduce physical and mental development.
Your support helps more women like Hodan feed their children.
This Giving Tuesday we are on a mission to collect funds for 1,000 emergency food packages for children. Every day children are going hungry, but you can help support them today. When you give today, your support goes even further to help those in need, thanks to a generous donor who will match these gifts until Giving Tuesday!
