Yanick –
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act provided $250 million in funding for community violence intervention programs, also known as CVI programs. According to 2019 research from the GIFFORDS Law Center, CVI programs have been proven to reduce homicides by as much as 60 percent.
But in order for community violence intervention programs to work, they must be properly implemented.
CVI programs use strategies to reduce violence by delivering comprehensive services to individuals at the highest risk of engaging in or being victimized by interpersonal violence. Through these programs, trained professionals are able to connect with members of communities and provide them with alternative strategies to resolve conflict, instead of resorting to violence.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act provided the largest investment ever made in community violence intervention programs. Now, we must make sure that the funds are being used to create CVI programs in every community across our country that needs them.
Thank you. Your support is critical in the fight to keep our communities safe from gun violence.
